It's #TeacherFeature Tuesday and today we're featuring Kalie Colvin, one of our lovely little Huskie specialists at the Early Childhood Center.
Apart from being able to cook Kraft Mac + Cheese to perfection, here are some other fun facts to know about Miss Kalie:
• She could listen to Cruel Summer by Taylor Swift on repeat.
• She wanted to be a Marine Biologist as a child, and feels Ariel from The Little Mermaid is the Disney character who best represents her. You won’t be surprised to hear that she loves the ocean!
• If she won the lottery and decided to give up working with the babies in the ECC, she said she’d sleep more.
• She regrets letting her mom pick out her outfits when she was younger, and simply adores the era of corsets and big, beautiful gowns, so given the opportunity to time travel, she’d head straight to the 17th century.
• She loves cows.
We’re so happy to have you in our Huskie Pack, Miss Kalie.

Hemlock Public School District is passionate about preparing students for the future they will actually live in. It's the Life Ready advantage.
Exploring a diverse range of career options is crucial for today's youth as they embark on their educational journey and prepare for the job market. Exposure to various career paths not only helps students make informed decisions about their future but also ensures they're better equipped to adapt to the ever-evolving job landscape. Amy Cole, HR & Project Coordinator of Fullerton Tool, deserves a heartfelt thank you for her recent visit to Hemlock High School during Manufacturing Day. Her insights and expertise provided students with a valuable glimpse into the world of manufacturing careers, particularly as CNC operators and CAD designers. Such hands-on experiences can ignite a passion for these fields and open doors to promising opportunities for these young minds.
Additionally, we would like to extend our gratitude to Michigan Works for their dedication to fostering career exploration through initiatives like MICareer Quest at Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU). Events like these enable students to interact with professionals from a wide array of industries and gain practical insights into the skills and qualifications required to excel in their chosen fields. The collaboration between educational institutions, local businesses, and organizations like Michigan Works is pivotal in ensuring our youth are well-prepared to embrace the future job market with enthusiasm and confidence.
Together, we can inspire the next generation of professionals to reach for their dreams and unlock their full potential in diverse and rewarding career paths.

The young 5’s students in Miss Kenny's class had a great time investigating their pumpkins. They took part in learning about the parts of a pumpkin, made predictions about what they would find inside, counted the seeds, and much more.

This week's #StaffSpotlight is on the dedicated Dean Keeler, head custodian of the night shift at Hemlock High School.
Other than being known as Deano as a child, here are some fun nuggets of information you may not know about him:
• His favorite part of his job is doing outdoor work, while his least favorite part is pausing to pick up trash while mowing.
• We asked him who would play him if a movie was made of his life, and he felt Clint Eastwood would do the best job.
• If he won the lottery and decided to give up his position at HPSD, he'd spend his days fishing and camping more, and doing other fun outdoorsy things.
• Something he’s proud of accomplishing thus far this year is rust proofing the underside of his truck and fixing all the rust holes on the fenders.
• A hidden talent he has is drawing and wood burning.
• What did he want to be when he grew up? He said simply, ”a hard worker”. We would say he’s succeeded, and we’re so thankful for his consistency, commitment and dedication to his vocation.
We’re grateful you’re part of the Huskie Pack, Dean!

Students in Mrs. Kaczynski's Spanish 2 class visited the Detroit Institute of Arts to experience an “Ofrendas” exhibit. This was sponsored by the Mexican consulate in honor of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).
The exhibit not only portrayed traditional DOD ofrendas, but also unique artistic renditions outside the box. Students had a chance to see an original mural by Diego Rivera encompassing an entire room representing the Industrial Revolution and diversity in Detroit, along with works of art by other famous Hispanic artists like Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. What a great day to be a Huskie!

It's #TeacherFeature Tuesday and today we're featuring the talented Tiffany Green, a 3rd Grade teacher at K.C. Ling Elementary.
Apart from being famous for her no bake cookies, and being a Hemlock alumnus herself, here are some other fun facts to know about Mrs. Green:
• Her favorite subjects in school were spelling and math. She was always good at memorizing how to spell words and qualified for the Knights of Columbus Spelling Bee in middle school. Math was another favorite subject of hers, algebra specifically, as she found solving equations fun!
• She has always wanted to be a teacher. She loved to play school at home in the summer, and naturally, was consistently the teacher. She also shared that she had many teachers while attending Hemlock Public School District that positively influenced her to pursue a career in education.
• If she won the lottery she’d likely retire early and buy a beachfront home in the south, soak up as much sunshine as possible, and enjoy entertaining friends and family.
• She hopes her students remember her as a teacher who cares about each and every student. Her goal is to create an environment where her students feel safe to take risks, valued as a member of their classroom, and motivated to be the best version of themselves possible.
Once a huskie, always a huskie. We're so grateful to still have you in our Huskie Pack, Mrs. Green.
