It's #TeacherFeature Tuesday and today we're featuring the lovely LeAnn Gerard, who teaches Culinary Arts and English at Hemlock High School, and has been with the district for over 25 years.
Other than loving having a cat to snuggle, here are some fun facts about Mrs. Gerard that you may not know:
• Her favorite subject in school was English because reading, writing, and grammar came easily to her.
• If she won the lottery and decided to give up teaching, she’d open her own pie shop and play with crust everyday.
• As her students move on, she hopes they remember her enthusiasm and how hard she pushed them to to excel in class and more importantly, in life.
• What can she cook to perfection? The pasty. She said, "I'm half Yooper, so it's a family pride thing."
• We asked her if there was a quote or saying that she lives her life by, and she said: “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" from Philippians 4:13. No matter how challenging life may get, I know I'm not alone. Jesus has conquered the world and he's with me every minute of every day."

We're excited to announce that, thanks to the incredible generosity of the Fordney Club in celebration of their 100th Anniversary, and with the support of Dr. Vance from Covenant HealthCare and Central Michigan University, we've received another portable AED for our school.
Arnav Sharma of the Pulse3 Foundation stopped by to present this life-saving device to our Athletic Director Cory Snider and High School Principal Keith Green. Hemlock Public School District, in concert with the Hemlock Business Association, presents the Huskie Pack Wreath for 2023.
This wreath holds 12 envelopes for the 12 days of Christmas; to encourage ticket sales, we would like you to believe that they are all filled with crisp one-hundred dollar bills, but the reality is they are filled with something that is even more valuable. Each envelope has a positive affirmation that will make each and every day during the twelve days of Christmas even more blessed.
Raffle cost is $1 per ticket or $5 for six, and can be purchased at the HPSD Administration Office located on the southwest corner of the high school; use the South parking lot and enter at the peaked roof.
The Wreath Raffle Drawing will take place on December 1st as a part of Hemlock Hometown Holidays 2023.

This week's #StaffSpotlight is on the wonderful Jennifer LeClair, a Special Education Paraprofessional who has worked here at Hemlock Public School District for 13 years.
Other than having mastered the art of cooking cabbage rolls to perfection, here are some nuggets of information you may not know about her:
• Her favorite part of her job is working with the kids, while her least favorite part is their meltdowns.
• Her nickname as a child was “JJ” and some of her worst fashion decisions happened in the 80s.
• A song she could listen to on repeat is Scenes from an Italian Restaurant by Billy Joel.
• If she were to win the lottery and give up her day job, she’d buy a big farm and open an Animal Shelter.
• A quote she lives her life by is “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new” by Albert Einstein.

Exploring the vibrant traditions of Día de los Muertos with our incredibly creative Spanish teacher, Profe Kaczynski.
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is celebrated in Mexico and other Spanish speaking countries on November 1 and 2. While it originated in the times of the Aztecs, it has evolved over the years to become a beautiful day of remembrance where people prepare an elaborate celebration to honor the memory of relatives who have passed away. 🌼💀💃

🏀 A thrilling showdown on the court! Our 8th-grade girls showed incredible spirit in their basketball face-off against our teachers yesterday.
While the teachers may have won, the real victory was the incredible teamwork and sportsmanship on display.
Kudos to our refs who did a great job keeping everyone in line.
