Have a great Spring Break!

On March 14th, Hemlock Middle School had 53 girls from grades 6 through 8 travel over to Delta College. The girls spent the day exploring STEM careers that are traditionally male-dominated fields, and they visited a variety of sessions that had them doing hands-on projects. The sessions were presented by professors from Delta College, members of the American Chemical Society, as well as local professionals.
“This event is such a great opportunity for our female students. Most of the presenters are women that work in STEM related careers,” says Ashley Bebow, the 7th grade mathematics teacher at HMS. “This was our fourth year of attending Delta College’s Girls’ Day Out, and it was our largest group to ever go on this field trip. I am really happy that I was able to help facilitate this event again for our students.” During this year’s event, our students were able to learn about astronomy, find out what it takes to be a surgeon, explore how surface tension works, visit a dental simulation lab and learn about dentistry careers, use CAD to create pendants, and so much more! Our girls had a fun time and did a great job of representing our school during this trip!

Fly Fishing anyone? Mr. Wilkowski and his Fly Fishing Club are busy practicing their casting today. GIve them a few more days and they will be professionals!

Our fellow Little Huskies are in need of help. Are you up for the task? We have a new Elementary Art teacher and supplies are needed. If you wish to donate anything off the list, please bring it to our HMS office and we will get it to our littlest Huskies right away.
