Hemlock, MI – K. C. Ling student Bennett Lockwood, and his family, raised funds to purchase socks for all the students and staff at Hemlock Public Schools to raise awareness for World Down Syndrome Day. Every year on March 21st, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks.
Bennett’s father, Matt Lockwood, along with Senator Ken Horn, gave a presentation to Bennett’s 2nd-grade class about down syndrome promoting not only inclusion, but more importantly acceptance. Students also received a special treat and sticker along with their special socks.
Principal Lori Gensch shared, “Benny is a special piece of our school puzzle. Inclusion for all students with disabilities is a high priority in our school district. The socks provided a great avenue for conversations centered around acceptance.” She added, “To know Benny is to love Benny. His smile can light up any room.”
