Recently, STEAM teacher Emily Schmidt received this year’s Great Lakes Bay Region STEM STAR award and a $250 grant to enhance STEM education for Hemlock Public School District.
Mrs. Schmidt has been an instrumental figure in the elementary education STEAM area for grades Young 5-4th. She encourages students with hands-on creativity and challenges, whether it be; building model bridges inspired by the work of Emily Roebling and the techniques used to construct suspension bridges, or creating a 12-inch tower made entirely from heart-shaped pieces that can with-stand 30 seconds.
MTSS Teacher Aimee Fromholz shared, “Emily is an amazing person to work with. She always has a smile on her face, and she’s always willing to go above and beyond for our students.”
