Reading month is looking a little different this year but is not lacking excitement. Hemlock and K.C. Ling Elementary Schools have kicked off the month with special-themed days, flashlight reading, Open Mic Night via Google Meet, and they will be having their author visit virtually! Author Bruce Hale will Zoom with our elementary students.
Bruce Hale has written and/or illustrated over 50 books for kids. His popular series includes the award-winning Chet Gecko Mysteries, the Monstertown Mysteries, and Clark the Shark, among others.
Literacy Coach Stephanie Dunton shared, “We emphasize the importance of reading all year long but reading month gives us the chance to celebrate our students' accomplishments and all the opportunities that books provide us with. I am so excited that we are still able to offer an author visit to our students. It is important to continue to keep the excitement of learning alive in our students, especially in a year like this one. Reading month and our annual author visit is one way that we can do this.”
Principal Gensch stated, “What a way to kick-off our March Reading Month! We couldn’t get our students more excited about reading than having such a well-known author visit our school!”
