Hemlock Public School District proudly announces the retirement of Janice Hingston, a dedicated educator whose passion and commitment have left an indelible mark on the community. Effective June 30, 2024, Mrs. Hingston will be concluding her illustrious teaching career, which spans nearly four decades, including 25 years of devoted service at Hemlock Public School District.
Janice began her journey in education as a student teacher at Hemlock Elementary, where she worked with Young Fives, Kindergarten, and Second Grade students back in 1986, the same year she received her bachelor's degree and teaching certificate. Her early career included roles such as a Title 1 Teacher at AuGres Sims from 1986 to 1988, followed by a significant stint as a Third Grade Teacher at the same institution until 1997.
In June 1999, Janice brought her talents back to Hemlock, initially serving as a Title 1 Language Arts teacher at the middle school level. She ultimately found her calling in the fourth grade classroom, where she spent the remainder of her career until her retirement in 2024.
Throughout her tenure, Janice Hingston was more than just a teacher; she was a mentor, a guide, and a friend. Her ability to build strong, genuine relationships with her students allowed her to help them grow not only academically but also as individuals. Janice’s dedication to nurturing the development of better human beings is a testament to her profound impact as an educator.
Superintendent Killingbeck said, "It was always a pleasure to visit Mrs. Hingston's classroom. She treated the profession as a calling, a vocation, and had a positive impact on hundreds of students, including two of my own children. Janice had a way of igniting the flame of learning inside her students."
Janice's interests in reading, swimming, biking, camping, calligraphy, and crafting enriched her teaching approach, bringing creativity and a zest for life into her classroom. Her hobbies not only reflected her love for learning but also inspired her students to explore their own passions and interests.
As we celebrate Janice’s remarkable career, we extend our deepest gratitude for her years of service and the countless contributions she has made to Hemlock Public School District. Her legacy will undoubtedly continue to influence and inspire future generations in Hemlock and beyond.
Please join us in wishing Janice Hingston a joyful and fulfilling retirement!
