At Hemlock Public School District, our mission remains clear: to support student success and empower every member of the Huskie Pack to lead the way toward a brighter future. Since launching in partnership with Delta College in the fall of 2014, Hemlock High School's Early Middle College (EMC) program has become a cornerstone of that mission.
The EMC program allows students to experience the rigor of college-level coursework while still enjoying the full high school experience. Students begin taking college courses during their junior and senior years—both online and in person—and spend a fifth year attending classes directly on Delta College's campus.
"Hemlock EMC is one of the most impactful opportunities our high school curriculum offers," said Hemlock High School Dean of Student Kyle Boros. "It gives our students a jump start on college while reducing the financial burden for families."
To date, the program has served more than 190 students and awarded over 9000 college credits—all at no cost to families.
In today’s world, where the cost of higher education continues to rise, Hemlock’s EMC program provides students with a rare opportunity to begin their post-secondary journey with college credits—and in many cases, a full associate degree—without accumulating student loan debt.
"We are fortunate to offer such an impactful program that directly benefits our students and families," said Superintendent Don Killingbeck. "To date, our EMC program has saved families hundreds of thousands of dollars in college tuition."
Applications for Hemlock High School’s Early Middle College program open on February 4, the same day as our EMC student and parent information night. Applications will be accepted through March 20 or until all available spots are filled. Additional information and application materials are available on our website at www.hemlockps.com.
In celebration of the program’s ongoing success, the district will be hosting a grand opening of a new dedicated space that will happen in the Fall of 2025 designed to support EMC students and professors. The new space will serve as a hub for collaboration, college coursework, and student success and also serve as a counseling center and home to our virtual program.
