Hemlock Elementary School is excited to announce its “After Holiday Kindness Challenge,” an initiative designed to build a culture of kindness throughout the school community. Starting in January, students will be challenged to demonstrate acts of kindness, with their efforts contributing to a school-wide goal that brings an element of fun and surprise.

Each teacher at Hemlock Elementary has been given 25 paper Lego pieces. Every time a student displays an act of kindness, such as helping a peer, sharing, or using kind words, they will earn a paper Lego piece for their class. The Lego pieces will be prominently displayed in the main hallway, creating a visual representation of the school’s collective progress toward their kindness goal.

When the students successfully earn all the Lego pieces, the entire school will be rewarded with a special rotation of surprise activities. These activities are designed to celebrate the students’ hard work and reinforce the importance of spreading kindness.

“Our goal with this challenge is to teach students that small acts of kindness can build something much bigger,” said Rebekah Harris, Hemlock Elementary’s social worker. “The Lego pieces are a fun way to track their progress and show how each kind act contributes to a stronger, more connected school community.”

Principal Cory Snider also emphasized the value of this initiative, stating, “At Hemlock Elementary, we believe in fostering not just academic growth but also the social and emotional well-being of our students. The Kindness Challenge is a wonderful opportunity for students to see the positive impact they can have on their peers and the entire school.”

The challenge aims to inspire students to carry kindness into their everyday lives, extending the spirit of the holiday season into the new year. With the paper Lego display in the main hallway, students can take pride in their contributions and celebrate their collective accomplishments as they work toward their reward.
