In the heart of the Hemlock community, Kimberly Hoeppner has emerged as a steadfast pillar of support and leadership. As a dedicated member of the Board of Education, Kimberly’s journey is one marked by a deep commitment to her family, her community, and the students of Hemlock Public School District.
Kimberly Hoeppner’s connection to education and community service is as strong as her roots in Hemlock. A proud graduate of St. Charles High School’s class of 1981, Kimberly has always valued the importance of education, a commitment she has passed on to her family. Married to William Hoeppner for 40 years as of July 2024, Kimberly’s life is centered around her close-knit family. William, an alumnus of the class of 1973, shares Kimberly’s dedication to education and community service.
Together, they have raised two children who have made their own marks in the world. Their son, Cory, a 2003 Hemlock alum, pursued higher education at Ferris State University, earning a degree in plastics engineering in 2007. Their daughter, Billi, a 2006 alum, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Saginaw Valley State University and later obtained her master’s degree in Education from the University of Michigan. Today, Billi is a Special Education Teacher at the Northwest Education Services in Traverse City, continuing the family tradition of dedication to education. Even though I graduated from St. Charles, I feel Hemlock is my hometown.
For 25 years, Kimberly ran a licensed group in-home daycare, where she provided care and support to countless children and families in the Hemlock community. Her work in childcare was more than just a profession—it was a testament to her nurturing spirit and her unwavering commitment to the well-being of children. Upon retiring from this role, Kimberly transitioned to a new phase of life, where she now devotes her time to her family, enjoying the joys of being a grandmother, camping, and traveling with her extended family to Florida.
Kimberly’s retirement from childcare didn’t mark the end of her service to the community. In 2019, she was elected to the Hemlock Board of Education, stepping into the role to replace David King. Her tenure on the board has been characterized by a deep sense of responsibility and a desire to make a positive impact. Kimberly views her role on the Board of Education as an extension of her lifelong commitment to supporting children and families. She is passionate about ensuring that the district provides the best possible environment for students to learn and grow.
In addition to her work on the board, Kimberly is actively involved in the Hemlock Celebrations Committee, also known as Hemlock Sawdust Days. As a leader and organizer of the auction barn, she plays a crucial role in raising funds for high school senior scholarships, helping to pave the way for the next generation of Hemlock graduates.
Kimberly believes that one of the greatest strengths of Hemlock is its supportive community. "We have a great supportive community when it comes to our kids," she says. However, she also acknowledges the challenges that come with ensuring the district has the financial resources needed to meet its goals. Despite these challenges, Kimberly remains optimistic, noting that the trust the community places in the board and its decisions is a key factor in Hemlock's ability to face these challenges head-on.
The COVID-19 pandemic tested the resilience of communities across the country, and Hemlock was no exception. Kimberly commends the parents, students, and staff for their exceptional efforts in maintaining face-to-face learning during this challenging time. She believes that this collective effort is a shining example of "Huskie Pride at its best."
As Kimberly Hoeppner continues her service on the Board of Education, her dedication to the Hemlock community remains as strong as ever. Through her work, she is helping to ensure that Hemlock Public School District not only meets the challenges of today but also prepares for a bright and promising future. Her story is one of unwavering commitment, community spirit, and a deep belief in the power of education.
Kimberly Hoeppner is more than just a face of governance—she is a beacon of the values that make Hemlock a great place to live and raise a family. Her contributions to the district and the community are a testament to the difference that dedicated, compassionate leadership can make in the lives of students and families.
